Architects present plan for EMS building in Bayview
Whidbey General Hospital will likely go out to bid for Bayview’s new Emergency Medical Services building in August, consultants on the $1.2 million project said Thursday.
The EMS facility will be built on Highway 525 near Bayview Road. Architects working on the project unveiled the design of the facility this week and said it will fit well with the surrounding area.
The 4,500-square-foot structure will have a “simple vocabulary of broad planes, prominent visibility, natural wood siding and a vernacular color scheme,” said Erik Goodfriend, project manager with Mahlum Architects.
“We’ve placed the vehicle bays along the front of the building facing the highway to clearly communicate the value of EMS service to the community in the south end of Whidbey,” Goodfriend said.
The project will be reflective of rural architecture similar to that found on nearby farms, Goodfriend added.
The building will have residential quarters for up to six people. The project is expected to be finished by spring 2009.
