To the editor:

I found the letter in this past Wednesday’s paper titled “Planned growth is needed” interesting. What we appear to have are two writers who live in Coupeville offering advice to those of us who live in Freeland.

What we actually have are two Democrat activists offerring kudos to the two liberal Democrats who are currently still on the Island County Board of Commissioners for their approval of the Freeland Subarea Comprehensive Plan.

This plan is just another step pushed by those who support more government and higher taxes. Following adoption of the plan will be massive debt caused by the sewer system that the two liberal county commissioners also support. This system is purported to solve water quality problems in Holmes Harbor.

The source of these problems is unknown but the remedy, from their point of view, is more debt. This will, no doubt, result in businesses going bankrupt and people losing their homes because of the large tax assessments needed to pay for the sewer project.

This will be followed by more pushing for Freeland incorporation, followed by new municipal taxes without corresponding county tax reductions, followed by mandatory low-income housing, followed by further taxation, followed by more government, and the circle will continue.

You simply can’t judge a book, or a letter to the editor, by its cover.
