The South Whidbey girls soccer team celebrated its first game of the season with a 4-1 victory over the Friday Harbor Wolverines on Thursday.

Jessica Manca scored twice and Anna Lennon and freshman Sarah Young picked up a goal each for the Falcons.

Coach Paul Arand, sensing a win, cycled in untested players Young, Tabitha Helland, Chaney Potter and Megan Hull to give them experience.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Falcon volleyball girls beat the Lakewood Cougars in a Cascade Conference duel, winning 25-14, 25-12 and 25-23.

“The girls played extremely well and I want to especially thank all the students and fans who showed up to support the team,” said Falcon coach Mandy Jones.

“First game, first league win. Nice.”
