Reah Kathryn Whiteside died Feb. 14, 2006. She was born June 18, 1914 in Seattle to Jane Jensen and Henry Ritzman, the granddaughter of a pioneer Seattle family.
Reah was a Roosevelt high school graduate, class of 1930. She worked for Safeco Insurance as a legal secretary until her retirement in 1977.
Reah married Mark Wellington Whiteside in 1937 and raised her family in Seattle; daughter Kathryn Dodson-Magnus of Bothell and son Leon Whiteside (Patricia) of Greenbank.
She spent her leisure years in Mesa Arizona and Dines Point on Whidbey. Reah was on the shuffleboard team that won the Arizona Senior Championship in 1995. She was a deaconess of Olympic View Community Church for many years. Reah was also a member of the Ahmes Court No. 41 of Ladies of the Oriental Shrine.
With her folks she started coming to Whidbey in the 1920s and always felt that it was her real home.
She is survived by her son and daughter, five grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Mark and granddaughter Mindy Dodson Royal.
A private family service was held in her honor.
Remembrances can be made in her name to the Shrine Children’s Hospital.
