David Bruce Nyland, of Langley, lost his battle to cancer on May 25, 2006.
He was born Nov. 10, 1945, in Seattle, a son of Russell John and Christina Mae Nyland.
Dave leaves his loving wife, Sara; a son, Brent; a daughter, Amy; brothers, Gary and Al; and many loyal friends and relatives.
Drafted into the Army, he was sent to Vietnam from 1966-1967, where he received an award for being a sharpshooter.
After receiving his master’s degree in education through Western Washington University, Dave shared his knowledge teaching high school and college classes. One of the most important goals in Dave’s life was to have a positive effect on those around him. His witty sense of humor, patience, loyalty and kindness will not be forgotten.
Dave was an avid sailor, loved to be on the open blue waters, and sailed and traveled all over the world. Taking time to visit was very meaningful in Dave’s life. We won’t forget his special gift of craftsmanship; he could create anything with his tools and could fix everything.
Special thanks to Dr. Bevan Yueh and Raylene Canby at the VA Medical Center in Seattle, and Hospice of Island County, for all their care and support.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
We will miss you Dave-O.
Arrangements are under the direction of Visser Funeral Home, Langley.
