“South Whidbey Literacy is looking for a new coordinator, as the present coordinator, Jean Carl, plans to step down in June.The Literacy group tutors adults with reading problems as well as students from the intermediate school and older. They have received grants from United Way for the past several years and these have been used for training, office supplies, and other needs.There are 12 tutors presently volunteering on the Southend of the island, trained in Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language.
