Two Islanders boys teams each won first place in their respective divisions at the 2006 Turkey Shoot soccer tournament on Nov. 17-19 in Mukilteo.

The Islanders U9 team coached by Crispin Roberts won all their games in the U8/U9 division. The team consisted of Desmond Bell, Parker Buchanan, Ebey Flyn England, Quinn Hassrick, Jordan Henriot, Lucas Leiberman, Cameron MacDonald, Jake Price and Lochlan Roberts.

The Islanders U11 team coached by Gary Peterson and Scott Mauk won the U11/U12 division. The team includes Trey Adams, Jeffrey Bueler, Christoph Clare, Jack Frey, Jack Hood, Sage Mauk, Peter Moore, Jonathan Peterson, Finley Pigott Thomas, Tyler Russell, Calvin Shimada, Jake Sladky, Gregory Smith, and James Young.

The championship game saw our U11 Islanders win 1-0 against an older U12 team of boys from King’s Christian School in Shoreline, which hadn’t lost a game during the fall season or the tournament.

There were 126 teams from U8 to U15 at this tournament sponsored by the Mukilteo Youth Soccer Club. The boys — and their parents — endured downpours and blustery winds throughout the second day’s games, but it was all worth it.

The first-place team trophies were presented to Eric Nerison the next day at the Intermediate School for display in the school’s trophy case.

The weekend of Nov. 17-19 wrapped up the fall season for the South Whidbey Youth Soccer Club rec teams.

In all, 320 boys and girls participated in soccer this past fall, and the girls Soccer Shockers U13 and Neeké U15 select teams still play weekends through Dec. 16-17.

The South Whidbey Youth Soccer Club will start registration in January for the spring season.

A newsletter will be going out to soccer families next month, and more information will be available at www.swysc.com.
