Island County to host public hearing over fairgrounds transfer

The county is inviting the public to comment on the sale and transfer of the Island County Fairgrounds.

A public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 28 at the Island County Board of Commissioners Hearing Room to discuss the matter. The hearing room is located at 1 NE 6th Street in Coupeville.

A majority of voters approved the ownership transfer of the fairgrounds from Island County to Port of South Whidbey on Nov. 7, 2016. The election was held within South Whidbey School District’s geographical boundaries.

Despite the change in ownership, the property will continue to house the community activities it has in the past, including the Whidbey Island Fair and Island County 4-H programs.
