Murphy rallies late to tip Falcons / Softball

Archbishop Murphy scored six runs on only one hit in the final inning to slip by the South Whidbey High School softball team 8-3 Monday, April 30, in Langley.

The Falcons took a 3-2 lead into the seventh behind a strong pitching performance by Mackenzee Collins. Collins had 14 strikeouts and allowed only four hits while walking only one entering the seventh inning.

After getting one out in the last inning, she walked five before being replaced by Melody Wilkie.

The Falcons took the lead with a run in the first inning when Collins doubled and scored on an error.

The Wildcats (8-3, 10-5) went up 2-1 with runs in the third and fifth innings.

South Whidbey regained the lead with two runs in its half of the fifth with two outs. Collins walked and Wilkie reached on a fielder’s choice. Walks to Bella Northrup and Sophia Olsson forced in Collins; Wilkie scored on a passed ball.
