To the editor:

I was saddened to read that the South Whidbey School District was forced to eliminate the Langley Middle School Adventure Education program due to budget constraints.

However, adventure education lives on for South Whidbey! For a hundred years, the Boy Scouts of America has offered outdoor adventures to boys aged 11-18. Young men and young women, aged 14-21, can also be involved in a BSA Venturing Crew.

There are three Boy Scout Troops south of Greenbank and talk of reviving a crew. In recent years members of Troop 57 (meets at 7 p.m. Tuesdays Langley CMA Church) have biked, hiked, backpacked, camped, snowcamped, canoed, river rafted, sailed, snorkeled, SCUBA’d and even climbed Mount Rainier. Let the adventure continue!
