To the editor:
Carpetbaggers are coming to South Whidbey Island, and they’ve got snake oil to sell.
Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) of Duvall is coming to our neighborhood to promote the de-construction of a 100-year-old dike in Deer Lagoon.
The reason, they say, is to promote salmon recovery. That’s sanctimonious hogwash.
What they’re actually about is spending your taxpayer dollars to lower water levels enough to allow further development of an already over-developed neighborhood. You think you have trouble getting out on to Highway 525 now? Just wait. Do you enjoy Lagoon wildlife as it currently thrives? Enjoy it while you can. Do you like it when the rich get richer by selling you a bill of goods?
I think not.
Where did WFC get the money to send out a mass mailing? Who are the local proponents of this unaffordable boondoggle?
Send a message to our politicians. There is strength in numbers. If you’ve had enough of moneyed interests misappropriating your tax dollars to fatten their bottom line, please attend the 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 public forum at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club. Tell WFC they’re not welcome; maybe they can find people dumb enough to buy into their scheme somewhere else. They won’t find them here.
