Donated shed helps food bank | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Good Cheer is happy that its garden shed has been placed at its permanent home in Gloria Sherman’s yard. We want to publicly thank Bob Bowling for a donation that was so creative it inspired many as they dreamed of having it in their yard.

Good Cheer volunteers and staff sold $9,065 in raffle tickets. This was made possible because of the generosity of Bob, a gifted craftsman, and community members who purchased 1,813 raffle tickets. We also want to thank publicly the Trinity Lutheran Quilters who, for the second year in a row, donated a beautiful quilt, for which a raffle raised $401.

All the money raised through these raffles will be used to support the Good Cheer garden, which provides our community with a choice of fresh vegetables. Since the garden was started two years ago, it has become an important source of fresh produce for the food bank, providing more than 5,000 pounds of vegetables annually. It has also developed into a community demonstration garden for food-growing techniques, a compost-demonstration site, and the location of many service learning and educational classes.

Good Cheer is so blessed to have the continued support of its community.
