To the editor:
Crowd critical of military spending? What about the crowd critical of the spending done by WEAN?
Marianne Edain should look at her own program’s unnecessary spending of Island County taxpayers’ dollars before criticizing the Navy for doing routine and necessary maintenance on the SBX.
The next article in this series of unprofessional and biased “news” stories proves that obviously the writer is far biased to the protesters’ plight, and not necessarily reporting the facts. One quote particular strikes me with confusion and anger. “It is total nonsense spending all that money on imaginary enemies,” said Malcolm Ferrier in the article. Imaginary enemies?
I suppose you also believe, as a self-proclaimed “dyed in-the-wool-pacifist,” that the entire Department of Defense and all it does to protect your freedoms and shockingly, from bonafide potential enemies, is a waste of money, as well. Perhaps you, Mr. Ferrier, are lucky enough to live in a fantasy world where you are able to speak your open, unbiased opinion without fear of retaliation from your government, or unprovoked attacks from hostile enemies, and that is your birthright.
But just remember, freedom isn’t free. While you adamantly express your opposition to a “nonsense” anti-missile platform being anywhere near this island because of “imaginary enemies,” my husband is deployed fighting to prevent a missile attack against our country from those very same enemies you claim don’t exist.
And, there is always a chance he will not come home from this deployment, and that he will never see me again or meet our unborn child.
And he is doing all of it to protect your civil liberties and freedoms. I guess ignorance really is bliss for some.
