The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill three positions on the Board of Equalization. One of the positions is for an alternate.
The commissioners appoint Board of Equalization members for three year terms, which may be renewed by mutual agreement. The board consists of five members and two alternates. It makes decisions on taxpayer petitions for property tax equalization.
The majority of meetings are held at the Courthouse in Coupeville, with periodic hearings scheduled on Camano Island. All applicants shall be county residents, shall neither be a holder of public office nor an employee of any elected official, and may not have been employed by the Island County Assessor within the previous two years. Newly appointed members must complete the required training within one year of appointment. Members are paid $100 per day during active service.
