To the editor:

I was recently dismayed when Skagit Valley Farm Supply, or Cenex, held a promotion in their Freeland store for the support of our local animal assistance groups.

And it was a long list! I had no idea there were so many good groups out there to help our animal friends. And yet our premier organization for companion animals, WAIF, was not included. How could that be? Isn’t there enough work to be done for Whidbey’s animals for all organizations to be included?

I understand that Cenex was not the organizer, but the venue for the promotion.

WAIF is in the process of a capital campaign for a beautiful new and much needed animal shelter in Coupeville that will serve the entire island, as their current shelter does.

WAIF has been doing a great job on our island for many, many years, long before many of these other groups came along. And now WAIF is excluded! One of the first lessons that we learn in school is to play well with others. Someone didn’t get the lesson.
