A big “thank you” to Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair for her “Sound Off” column, updating us on the many actions the county is taking to cut its use of fossil fuels and to build climate resiliency into the county’s plans and actions. It’s worth noting that most of the actions outlined by St. Clair are also smart financially.

This summer of so many climate catastrophes throughout the country and the world, plus our own excessively hot and dry summer, underscores how critical it is that we make progress on dealing with our new reality of climate change. And that it’s up to all of us.

I really want to thank Commissioner St. Clair for her leadership on climate change issues as well as so many others that she is leading on.
