Letter: Candidate forums will be on Zoom this October

Editor,

Election Day is Nov. 2. The deadline for our county’s Election Office to put standard ballots in the mail is Oct. 15th.

This year’s vote is most important because it involves offices in our local government such as city council and school board members, port and fire district commissioners, and more. The candidates are our neighbors. They are people who wish to serve our community in an elected office. The decisions these individuals will help to make can affect you directly. Voters need to be well informed before casting their ballots.

The League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island will be hosting candidates’ forums to provide voters an opportunity to learn more about the people seeking to be elected in November. Due to coronavirus contagion concerns, the events will be held virtually, via Zoom.

There will be three forums, one for North Whidbey on Oct. 12, another for Central Whidbey on Oct. 14, and the third for South Whidbey candidates on Oct. 7. The forums will all be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

These events will be advertised in various mediums including this newspaper, other local publications, Sno Isle Libraries’ websites, social media and our website, www.lwvwhidbey.org. Zoom links will also be posted on our website one day ahead of each event.

The League’s Forum Committee develops the questions for the candidates. Members of the public are invited to submit questions for the committee’s consideration by email, to lwv.whidbey@gmail.com. The deadline for question submissions is Sept. 30.
