Letter: Civil service seat needs someone new to fill it

Editor,

As my time as the chairperson of Langley, Washington’s Civil Service Commission, or CSC, draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my experience serving the community for the past four years. It has been an honor to work alongside my fellow commissioners and community members to ensure that the job vested on us by CSC Charter 2.56 of the Langley Municipal Code to select, appoint and/or employ the city of Langley police is conducted in a fair, impartial and transparent process.

As my term to serve expires, I want to encourage others in our community to get involved and take on this important work. We are currently seeking someone to fill my vacancy as CSC chairperson (required to be a citizen of the United States and a resident of such city for at least three years) as well as a secretary/chief examiner.

These roles are essential to the functioning of the Civil Service Commission, and I urge anyone who is interested in public service and upholding the principles of fairness and impartiality to consider applying. If interested please contact the city of Langley at 360-221-4246. Serving on the Civil Service Commission has been a rewarding experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to the betterment of our community. I look forward to seeing how the commission continues to grow and serve Langley in the years to come.
