Letter: Council race should remain nonpartisan

Editor,

I am running for City Council, Position 2, in Oak Harbor. It is a nonpartisan office. The purpose of any political party is to elect individuals who represent their values. I am declining to participate in the candidate forums for both the Republican and Democratic parties. It is their right to have candidate forums. My personal opinion is there is way too much partisan politics in our government.

The theme of my campaign is “Fix our Streets.” There is no such thing as a partisan pothole. Oak Harbor has an issue with our infrastructure! I feel that that there are no partisan solutions to our infrastructure issues. We have a process to resolve these issues.

The scope of the solution and the cost of the solution need to have a thorough public discussion. I also favor a public vote on approving the proposed costs of fixing our streets.
