Letter: Hospital CEO spearheaded improvements

Editor,

I am writing to express my strong support for Nathan Staggs and his leadership as CEO of WhidbeyHealth.

In his time at the hospital, Nathan has demonstrated a steady, values-driven approach to leadership that prioritizes both patient care and community wellbeing. One of the most significant examples of this commitment is his role in securing a contract to provide forensic nurses for our community. This was not a small or symbolic change — it was a critical step forward in ensuring that survivors of sexual assault receive timely, trauma-informed medical care close to home.

Beyond this important achievement, I have observed a gradual but meaningful shift in hospital culture under Nathan’s leadership. Change in complex institutions does not happen overnight, yet his efforts reflect a clear intention to listen, improve systems and build trust with staff and community partners alike.

I offer this support from both a personal and professional perspective. I work closely with survivors and systems that intersect with health care, and I recognize how essential thoughtful, accountable leadership is in these spaces. Nathan Staggs has earned my confidence and respect, and I believe WhidbeyHealth is stronger because of his leadership.

Our community benefits when leaders are willing to take on difficult work, invest in long-term change, and center care and dignity in their decisions. Nathan Staggs has done exactly that, and he has my full support.
