Editor,
In the eighth decade of my life I did not expect to be standing on street corners holding signs declaring my support for our Constitution and our democratic ideals. So far I have done it twice and I plan to do it again many times. I am doing it for my children and grandchildren and for your children and grandchildren. I am doing it because I believe we are seeing very real threats to our freedoms and rights as citizens of the United States of America.
But where are you? I need you to join me. If you do you will experience a sense of community that maybe you’ve been longing for. You will experience the gratitude of people driving or walking by who will shout and honk approval and thank you for being out there. Certainly there will be a few who signal their disapproval but we wave and smile at them as they pass by. They have a right to disagree.
Are you remaining silent because you’re afraid to speak out, because you feel threatened? I hope that’s not your situation but if it is I am truly sorry. I am standing out on the street corner for you too.
But where are the rest of you? You need to join us on June 14 for No Kings Day. Now is not the time to be silent.
