I found Judy Smith’s letter to the editor (in the Saturday, Aug. 19 edition) on point. The actions by the Island County Republican Party, along with many other Republican bodies across the country, convinced me that other than Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger there really aren’t any Republicans worthy of consideration for my vote for any office.

I grew up in a Republican family but I don’t believe my dad, as staunch an “R” as he was, would find anything commendable about the current version of the GOP. There’s just nothing “grand” about that political party anymore. Fear, lies, hate, and fascism seem to be its core agenda. That’s just not what this American voter supports. I’ll be voting Straight Blue for a very long time to come.
