LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Bravo on a magnificent mystery

To the editor:

Great job everyone!

Another Mystery Weekend is over and we want to say a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who makes this work each year.

First, a big thanks to all you stalwart actors for braving the elements, and the barrage of weird questions with no more armor than a few jumbled clues and your homemade costumes. And what costumes! Every year we writers are amazed to see what you creative kooks come up with to make our characters come alive. You never cease to amaze us!

Another big thanks to the crew at the Langley chamber. They worked overtime this year when Sunday morning brought the realization that 1,000 clues were not going to be enough. As new players streamed into the office, the staff worked busily to print several hundred more clues for each of the 30 businesses! A lot of pressure, but they handled it with grace and made it look easy. Bravo!

Thanks to the South Whidbey Record, especially Brian Kelly, for taking beautiful and professional pictures of the cast and the scenes, and to the Record staff for assembling the Langley Gazette, the most important piece of “evidence” in the mystery!

Thanks to the wonderful green-room volunteers who helped provide a safe place for the actors to rest and leave their belongings. (And a special thank you to Frank from the city of Langley for his important services!) Our tired feet, bodies and minds are very grateful to you!

A BIG thanks to Jim Freeman for reading the Coroner’s Report again this year on behalf of the new “coroner,” who does not have your flair for public speaking. You are indeed the “Conductor of Fun” and we really appreciate you sharing your time and talent with us!

Thanks to the Langley Police Department for “crime scene control” and for “arresting” the murderer this year.

And a thank you to the city of Langley and all the Langley merchants who support the event. We hope it brought you new customers, and that you all had as good a time as the actors and players.

Hope to see you again next year for the 26th mystery.
