LETTER TO THE EDITOR | City is putting too much focus on bar

Editor, I just read another article in The Record about the issues surrounding the former Mo’s pub. I just shake my head. First, a disclaimer. I am a townie. I spend my time in Edmonds when not in Langley.

Editor,

I just read another article in The Record about the issues surrounding the former Mo’s pub. I just shake my head.

First, a disclaimer. I am a townie. I spend my time in Edmonds when not in Langley.

Virtually every late night watering hole in Edmonds is near or immediately adjacent to residences. Unless there is a conspiracy to suppress the voices of the residents, there is little or no uproar. But, based on what I read on blogs and in the local Edmonds press, there are the same refreshingly mundane complaints about minor issues that are the hallmark of any touristy seaside town — too little parking, concerns about maintaining the character of the downtown while not impeding growth, etc.

Edmonds does not face the menace of wild bunnies and chickens, but other than that the similarities are striking. Not exactly sure where I’m going with this, but maybe the time could be better spent on all parties’ behalf finding a way to encourage small businesses and maybe even helping folks that want to bring tax revenue and some vitality to a beautiful town with an amazing array of people.

OK, I’ll shut up now and get back to knowing my place.
