Editor,

The Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund would like to thank everyone who responded to our spring letter. Through the generosity of the people of South Whidbey, the group is able to continue helping South Whidbey neighbors with medically-related expenses who cannot afford to pay.

A special thanks to the South Whidbey Academy’s Youth in Philanthropy or YIP, who recently awarded the organization with a generous grant. This award represents far more than a generous financial donation. From the fundraising required for YIP to get the foundation grant, through the application process, to the festive award ceremony, the YIP project was professional, inclusive, and meaningful. We extend our gratitude and appreciation to each and every YIPster. Your efforts have made, in no small way, South Whidbey a better place. Each of the non-profit organizations that received an award will spread your generosity and hard work into the community. Thank you and well done.

We are also thankful for the generous support of several local businesses, service groups, churches, and individuals in 2014: Island Internet Presence (Ryan Binford and Rick Fagan), Whidbey Telecom, The Whidbey Institute, Magic Change Jar participants—The Clyde Theater, Lindsay Communications, Island Athletic Club, and South Whidbey Assembly of God (Donations are matched—up to $250 each), Soroptomists International of South Whidbey, Whidbey Island Hospital Foundation, Eating 4 Charity; Langley Methodist Church, Saint Augustine’s in-the-Woods, and St. Hubert Catholic Church; Georgia Gerber & Randy Hudson, and Joni Takanikos.

You can continue to support our efforts at upcoming fundraisers:

— August 24, picnic at Whidbey Winery from 5-7 p.m. to the hip tunes of Skinny Tie Jazz.

—October 4, 7 p.m. Freeland Hall. Don’t miss the ninth annual Mr. South Whidbey Pageant. Once again six local men will compete for the Mr. South Whidbey title.
