LETTER TO THE EDITOR | GOP debate was only sound bites

Editor, Leave it to Fox News to pamper the GOP hopefuls with puff-ball questions about their evangelical leanings and Trump’s habit of bad-mouthing women. Not discussed were likely the most pressing issues facing man-kind today such as climate change, environmental degradation, ocean acidification, the exponential growth of the world’s population to around 10 billion of us by 2060, renewable energy and phasing out our ridiculous dependence on fossil fuel.

Editor,

Leave it to Fox News to pamper the GOP hopefuls with puff-ball questions about their evangelical leanings and Trump’s habit of bad-mouthing women.

Not discussed were likely the most pressing issues facing man-kind today such as climate change, environmental degradation, ocean acidification, the exponential growth of the world’s population to around 10 billion of us by 2060, renewable energy and phasing out our ridiculous dependence on fossil fuel.

Then there’s income inequality — nary a question on the subject. And, thanks to the five Supreme Court justices appointed by Ronald Reagan and G.W. Bush, we have Citizens United, the “gift” handed to rich guys that allows them to select and control our (their) elected officials through unfettered donations.

Thankfully (or not) we look forward to future presidential debates with both parties participating. That will force the GOP side to answer questions about the important issues mentioned above. The sound bites we heard from these 10 GOP hopefuls during the Fox debate will quickly be forgotten once the real issues are put forth for discussion.
