Editor,

Thank you for the excellent article about Hearts and Hammers Work Day on May 3. The article captured the various ways that the organization’s volunteers help homeowners remain in their homes when they can’t manage all the tasks themselves.

Another important mission of Hearts and Hammers is to develop a spirit of community. In this sense, we also need to thank the people who invited volunteers into their homes to assist with repairs, improvements, or general maintenance. Without you, there would be no Work Day. And, by asking for help from your neighbors, you make a major contribution to developing our community.

In addition to the South Whidbey organization’s efforts, Central Whidbey Hearts and Hammers also had a successful Work Day with over 100 volunteers working on 13 homes in the Coupeville and Greenbank areas.

Our thanks to all the homeowners and volunteers who participated throughout the area. Work Day is truly an example of “Neighbors helping Neighbors.”

WILSON BINGER

President, Central Whidbey Hearts and Hammers
