LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Langley rabbits may be an educational opportunity

Editor, Mel Watson’s call for bunny compassion inspired a radical thought. What if the bunny problem isn’t ours to solve? What if it were a perfect community issue that our kids can go to school on? What if the high school and middle school students were charged with finding a solution, not just as mock government, but as decision makers for their community?

Editor,

Mel Watson’s call for bunny compassion inspired a radical thought. What if the bunny problem isn’t ours to solve? What if it were a perfect community issue that our kids can go to school on?

What if the high school and middle school students were charged with finding a solution, not just as mock government, but as decision makers for their community? It would include lessons in civics, in critical thinking and decision making, in public health, in engineering (why can’t the football team fill the holes and monitor the field?), in law and in public speaking. What if teachers built a lesson or two around the issues associated with compassionate win-win solutions for this and many life problems? What if the students could hold hearings, invite local and even regional experts to testify so they could make an informed decision?

Let’s think outside the bunny box. Let’s let the children lead us as responsible young adults.
