LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Longtime community leader’s death a loss

Editor, We are writing to express our sadness for the passing of Hal Schlomann, a long-time member of the Clinton community. Hal first moved to Whidbey in the early 1980s and loved this community. Hal has recently served as treasurer of the Clinton Community Council, as superintendent of the Whidbey Island 4-H alpaca program, and as a member of the annual Whidbey Island Farm Tour committee. He had been involved in all of these activities while operating Fern Ridge Alpacas with his wife, Gretchen. Hal was committed to working for the betterment of the Clinton community through both his activities and ideas, such as the Clinton community picnic, which will be held for the second year on September 12 at Dan Porter Park.

Editor,

We are writing to express our sadness for the passing of Hal Schlomann, a long-time member of the Clinton community.

People like Hal are what make Whidbey Island special. He will be a loss not soon forgotten.

Our deepest sympathies to Gretchen and her family. The family has indicated donations to the Whidbey Island 4-H program would be most appreciated.
