LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Look past the headlines

We were very disturbed to read Brian Kelly’s article in the Saturday paper (Oct. 18) about Angie Homola.

It was an unfair depiction of her that included incriminating quotes from the two people (Bakke and McDowell) who are also in the hotly contested race for county commissioner.

We were surprised that personnel files were public documents that could be used in such a slanderous manner by our local paper.

We were additionally disturbed that there was no follow-up story in Wednesday’s paper or coverage of the protest at the Record in response to the unfair article written about Homola. Fortunately, we were able to read her response to the criticism in Kelly’s article. This came in an ad that her campaign had to pay for; Bakke, her opponent, did not have to pay for the favorable article written for him by Kelly.

We urge voters to look past the Record’s incriminating headline and read Homola’s response to the criticism. Island county needs the kind of change Angie Homola would bring to her role as county commissioner.
