LETTER TO THE EDITOR | New business is much more than a gun store

Editor,

Whidbey Arms, a new business, opened at the Ken’s Corner mall.

There were several editorial comments at the time regarding a gun business establishing a store front at this location.

James Childers is the owner. He has been in gun and related equipment sales for many years.

This business has been popular and offers more to the community than gun-related items. They offer very attractive wildlife metal art and long-term food supplies for emergencies.

These items are not otherwise available to the general public in this area. The staff is very helpful as well.

Firearms have been part of the American history from the beginning. There are millions of guns in America. They serve many beneficial purposes, such as hunting, target practicing, personal and family protection, family heirlooms, competition as in the Olympics and so on. Firearms are legal, and we are granted access to them as a Constitutional right.

The vast majority of firearms are used for positive purposes.

The folks at Whidbey Arms agree we should be providing more training for those who need the protection or gun safety training. We have a great local training facility at the Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club. There are hundreds of shooters who use it. They are good folks.

The range master and current president of the club is Mike McInerny who, for many years, was a very popular high school teacher here.

If you are a gun owner or have a child who needs some education there are some great folks at the gun club who offer training.

Youth can hunt alone at a very young age in this state. They should be trained first.

Meanwhile, check out Whidbey Arms. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
