To the editor:

It was with great sadness and personal pain that I read the comments by our elected commissioners concerning prayer before meetings. As someone who is not a Christian, I took to heart the remarks concerning a “watered down God,” and most hurtful, “hypocrites in the synagogues.”

Why is it important for each commissioner to first proclaim her Christian pedigree before saying that there should be separation between church and state? Do they believe we will think less of them if they had just stated that it is no one’s business what they believe and that the issue is the law? If they had, then they would have truly reflected the position of a democratically elected government official.
