LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Outside inquiry should happen

Editor, It is too bad a young man had to die in our county jail to finally get an investigation, hopefully on how the inmates are treated. It doesn’t surprise me though, especially after what I witnessed in the courtroom on Monday April 6. A gentleman was brought in from the Oak Harbor city jail who had simple charges of trespass but when the judge was finished, he was not.

Editor,

It is too bad a young man had to die in our county jail to finally get an investigation, hopefully on how the inmates are treated.

It doesn’t surprise me though, especially after what I witnessed in the courtroom on Monday April 6. A gentleman was brought in from the Oak Harbor city jail who had simple charges of trespass but when the judge was finished, he was not. He thought the charges were unfair and wanted to be heard, but he was told to get up. He declined and made a pulling motion. He was sitting so he really was not a threat but the officer in the courtroom was quick to grab the man’s face and twist his neck so violently from right to left that I am surprised his neck was not broken.

This is an uncalled for means of trying to take control. This is not and should not be tolerated by anyone as they half way carried him out. You could hear him screaming, “Help me, help me. They are killing me, please I need help.” I don’t know if it is the same young man that is now dead or not, but I do think our county should be investigated by an outside enforcement agency to help ease the minds of many, and show there are no cover-ups.

I am so sorry to the family of this young man. God bless them and help ease their pain.

Respectfully

LOIS REDFORD
