LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Price Johnson has the talent we need

To the editor:

I have had the pleasure of working with Helen Price Johnson many times in the years that I have served on the Stanwood-Camano School District Board of Directors.

Helen, in her role as a board member for the South Whidbey School District, has always proven to be a very capable, talented and dedicated member of the board. She worked tirelessly and always worked for the best interests of the kids.

We also were classmates in “Leadership WSSDA” (Washington State School Directors Association). Leadership WSSDA is an educational program devoted to enhancing the skills and ability of school board members in leadership roles.

During this year-long class, I discovered that Helen is really an exceptional leader. In a class composed of selected school board members from throughout the state, she stood out for her ability to recognize a problem, come up with a solution and work effectively with her colleagues for a resolution.

Helen and I collaborated on a “culminating project” for the class. Along with Patty Wood of Kelso, we developed a presentation for the annual state conference of School Board Directors.

While working with Helen on this project, I came to appreciate her dedication, hard work and thoroughness. She came up with the original plan for our project and was the driving force in developing it and presenting it.

During the class I had the privilege of sharing rides with her as we journeyed to Olympia, Kirkland and various other cities in the state. During these trips, I had the opportunity to realize the depth and breadth of her understanding of issues facing education. I always had the sense that Helen’s focus was on what was best for all students. She will bring this same focus and dedication to the role of county commissioner.

I urge you join me in supporting Helen Price-Johnson for county commissioner. She has the experience, talent, dedication and expertise we need.
