LETTER TO THE EDITOR: PUD powers are very broad

To the editor:

I hope all voters have a chance to review the voters pamphlet under the Public Utility District 1 Island County.

The following are just some of what voters would give up if the measure was approved.

A PUD would have the power to condemn, purchase or acquire public and private property, property rights and water rights.

A PUD would have the power to condemn, purchase, maintain and regulate property, property rights, facilities and other systems for generating electric energy and for distributing water for domestic use and irrigation.

A PUD also can condemn, purchase or acquire public and private water works and irrigation plants for the purpose of supplying water.

There is more than simply buying out PSE for supplying power.

The supporters forming the PUD, to my knowledge, have never mentioned the other powers that would be granted if this passes. These measures are very broad and far-reaching and have consequences.
