To the editor:

Summer camp, summer camp! What more needs to be said? What could be better than kids spending their summer days outside hiking on trails, playing games and making fun and messy art crafts? The only thing that could make it better would be a recreation center!

I know that the upcoming ballot means for many of you that there is an increase in your annual finances.

For Parks & Recreation it means the opportunity to offer more rewarding programs for children and their families. Currently, we are maxed out on what we can offer, but with a recreation center the possibilities are endless.

Take a moment to envision with me for a moment …

Your child is in a summer camp program that offers outside fun, but also can offer indoor care when the weather is not cooperating. With the new recreation center nearby, a counselor could drop your child off for a variety of classes that you choose, such as swimming, archery, tennis and rock climbing classes. Day camp could offer swimming on a regular basis, and parents would be welcome to come and swim with their children during that time frame. Busy moms and dads would be able to work out on the new exercise equipment in the recreation facility, without worry, while their child is being cared for in our day camp.

It’s an exciting future and I hope to see it soon!
