LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Rick Hannold is right for District 3 commissioner

Editor, The discriminating characteristic of socialism is compulsion. We see it all over government these days. Obamacare forces you to terminate the insurance you like and coerces you to buy more expensive insurance with government dictated “benefits” that you don’t want and don’t need. The current shibboleth of Democrats has become, “We decree; you agree” or perhaps “We declare; you despair.” There is one way to oppose this. Vote them out. As a start, I am supporting the Republican candidate, Rick Hannold, for District 3 commissioner.

Editor,

The discriminating characteristic of socialism is compulsion.

You know the Democrat mantra was in full effect a short time ago when the taxing twins, Angie Homola and Helen Price-Johnson, proposed that Island County property owners be afflicted with a compulsory recycle fee. It didn’t matter whether you made weekly runs to the recycle station or whether you were a senior who filled half a trash can per week. The Democrat candidate for District 3 is a close clone of the taxing twins — call them the taxing triplets.

Our economy is in shambles, our national debt is $17,000 billion dollars [$17 trillion]; 90-plus million Americans who once had a job and contributed to the economy have been kept out of the workforce by Democrat policies. No more. The way out is to vote Republican nationally, and locally, begin by voting for Rick Hannold for District 3 commissioner.

Rick is a retired U.S. Navy chief with 21 years of service. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for all those years and served with distinction, holding many positions of responsibility within the Navy. Rick’s conspicuous characteristic is that he seeks common sense solutions that will avoid the knee-jerk Democrat response to impose a new tax or increase an old tax or make permanent a temporary tax. Rick is civil and professional and will explore ways to make our Island County government run more efficiently.

What a concept.

Rick Hannold is a voice of reason, standing apart from a cacophony of babble. We need him on the Island Board of Commissioners. We need him to mount a stand against the Democrat mantra.
