To the editor:
Whidbey Island citizens are wise, community-minded people and will say yes on Aug. 18 to continue to fund Island Transit services, through sales and use tax.
I grew up on Whidbey Island during the 1950s-70s, born in Coupeville and raised on Deer Lake Road in Clinton, back in the days before Island County citizens voted and approved to begin a public municipal corporation called Island Transit.
Wow it would have been great to have the option of public transit during my young years. After high school graduation I could not wait to leave “the Rock,” only to realize years later what a wonderful and beautiful community Whidbey Island has matured into.
What a blessing to move back home and be hired to work at Island Transit. I work with a great and diverse bunch of characters, our bus system is one to be proud of and support.
As many of you who work in customer-service orientated business it can be stressful and demanding, but I work in an office where we work hard but also laugh, smile and sing.
What joy and a real tension-breaker to have a management team who will break into a crazy song to get us all laughing and smiling. I am proud of Whidbey Island citizens, to provide our unique community with the many ride-sharing services of Island Transit is a great way to preserve our beautiful island.
Continue to support Island Transit by voting yes Aug. 18.
