To the editor:

We want to take this time to thank our wonderful staff at the South Whidbey primary and intermediate schools. They have created a nurturing and safe place for all of our kids.

Our schools are in crisis, and we need to reach out and support these hard-working professionals who support our kids.

This week brought incredibly bad news to many people in our school district in the form of potential layoff notices. In a small community like this, it is especially difficult, as these people are our neighbors and friends.

If you haven’t done it lately, take the time and thank your child’s teachers, bus drivers, school secretaries, para-educators, counselors, custodians, lunch ladies and principals. They deserve our thanks and support.
