To the editor:
Saturday, my daughter and I headed out to enjoy the most delightful holiday activities here on beautiful Whidbey.
It seemed as though every holiday event was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, and I was determined for her to enjoy some of the magic. We started off at the Langley Christmas parade, hoping to get a glimpse of Santa. Then off to Waldorf School for its beautiful and most endearing Holiday Children’s Workshop.
Delightfully, Mestawot made a copper candle holder, colorful wax ornaments, painted a silk scarf, and glued acorns, seeds and berries onto a rainbow wooden frame, all while enjoying the Christmas caroling, story telling, homemade foods, and visits from friends. It was every bit enchanting.
Then off to Bayview for a great latte and song from Sandra, wrote a letter to Dear Ole’ Saint Nick, ate gourmet cheeses at the Star Store, received a candy cane from a most spectacular and voluptuous Mrs. Christmas, petted Salty the holiday pony, and ended our visit with a highly anticipated photo with a most wonderful Santa, who, by the way, serenaded a very cautious little girl to his knee. Snap! What a photo!
Sadly, we had to miss Dawn Collins’ puppet show in Langley at 1 p.m. We had completely lost track of time. And, exhaustingly as we headed home, I retrieved The South Whidbey Record from our box before pulling down the drive, only to notice that we had unfortunately missed Courtney Campbell’s children’s concert at Mukilteo Coffee at 2 p.m. It was 2:50 p.m. Do I turn this car around? I thought better not, as I see my daughter yawning in the rearview mirror.
We had a most delightful day together. Truly, it is time for home.
Thank you to all here on Whidbey who have made a beautiful memory day for my daughter and me (and all the other families) — and to all a good night.
What will she expect of me and the island tomorrow?
