LETTER TO THE EDITOR | South End veterans reflect on Veterans Day

Editor,

This Veterans Day morning, a small group of men and women gathered at a coffee shop in Langley. Among us were those who had served with the Army, Air Force and Navy.

There was no agenda, but what unfolded were reflections about how each had ended up with the military. There were thoughts of service for a greater cause, a sense of adventure, and a desire to get out into the world.

We all agreed that neither we, nor any other person with whom we served did so with the desire to go into battle, fight, and kill. In fact, there was the hope that this would never happen.

And it was interesting to note that all who gathered were in some way involved in promoting peace and understanding.
