To the editor:

Thank you, South Whidbey Parks and Recreation for attempting to meet the needs of all South Whidbey residents by considering a public golf course at Holmes Harbor as part of a comprehensive plan.

Unlike the editor, who suggested those local golfers who don’t belong to a private club can take their money and drive 30-40 miles north to Oak Harbor — or better yet spend their money off Island — the parks department sees the whole picture.

Keeping this public course money at home and adding to the tourist/visitor revenue potential makes more sense.

It would even add a few local jobs.

Lake boaters, swimmers, youth sports leagues and skateboarders are pleased the parks department recognized the needs and helped provide for them, not sending them away from their community to pursue their interests.
