LETTER TO THE EDITOR | ‘Super kitten’ is safe at home

Array

To the editor:

Oliver, super kitten as he is called, was given a second chance this week because Jim Fox of Fox’s Tree Service came to his rescue on Tuesday.

We called Jim in the morning, telling him our 10-month-old kitten, Oliver, was stuck in a neighbor’s yard at the top of a western red cedar. Jim said, “I’ll be there before noon.” And he was! Jim climbed the tree, coaxed Oliver to him with a little tuna and then brought Oliver down safely in a pillowcase.

Thank you Jim!

We also want to thank my neighbors and friends, especially Tina Jensen, in whose tree Oliver decided to take up residency. Tina agonized over Oliver being out in the below- freezing weather, with gusty winds and snow. She even went out at 1 a.m. to call to him and make sure he was OK. Tina and her dog, Buddy, offered Oliver friendship when no one else could.

To our friends whose thoughts, chants and prayers were directed toward Oliver; we know you made a difference between never knowing what happened to him and bringing him home safely. Thank you, Tina. Thank you all.

We can’t say Oliver learned his lesson and will never take up climbing again. We do know he was mighty glad to be out of the tree and home. He immediately curled up on his bed and fell asleep.
