LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Take a chance, vote for Sanders for president

Editor, It’s not that much of a stretch to see why so many voters gravitate towards Donald Trump. He has everything they don’t have — power and a voice. He is listened to, even if you don’t agree with him, which I personally don’t. Most folks that I have met in my life, basically all want the same thing, whether in our country or abroad. They simply want to be heard. Having a job, a nest and being able to take your babies to the doctor when they are sick are pretty simple needs, yet for some are still unobtainable.

Editor,

It’s not that much of a stretch to see why so many voters gravitate towards Donald Trump.

For me, education is a huge issue. Our young people will one day take over when we are all dead, so we have an obligation to help them get into and through school without lifelong debt. Bernie Sanders has been an advocate for free community college for many years. I know Hillary is now saying she will implement the free community college program that President Barack Obama wants, but I have also heard her say several times that she doesn’t believe in free education.

While secretary of state, she encouraged poor nations to sign deals with American fossil fuel companies to extract their shale gas through fracking. This is disturbing to me as most of these countries have scant, if any, environmental regulations. We all know that fracking is linked to drinking water contamination and earthquakes. Look at Oklahoma.

I am also anti-super delegate because it seems so very undemocratic. We wouldn’t have super delegates if McGovern hadn’t done so badly during the 1972 election. Then, in 1980 here come the “Super Delegates.” Super delegate standing is solely based on current or former office holders and party officials. This year’s super delegates consist of governors, former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, Al Gore — even Dick Gephardt are super delegates for 2016.

Super delegates are not required to vote the will of the people as a result of the popular vote, but their own will. In simple terms, the only reason that we have super delegates is so high ranking Democrats can maintain some control over the nominating process.

Super delegates in Nevada and South Carolina have already pledged a good portion of their votes to Hillary, and all without a primary or caucus occurring. Even that is not too surprising to see the super delegates jumping into Hillary’s camp as Bernie Sanders will stop their money flow, if he is elected. Wow, democracy in action. I encourage everyone to take a chance on Bernie!
