LETTER TO THE EDITOR | The state’s logging rules aren’t about conservation

Editor, Thank you for your discussion of Island County logging. Island County Code 17.04A.020 leaves the real decision on logging up to the state (84.33 and 84.34 RCW). The state forest practices act is not about conservation. It is about profiting from a commodity called trees, which have a very slow maturity. Landowners and the state Department of Revenue profit, but the revenue is a once in a generation thing.
