LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Walmart helps hate group

To the editor:

On Sunday, July 19, my family and I traveled from South Whidbey to Oak Harbor to shop at Walmart.

When we approached the front entrance, we were confronted by an anti-gay group that had set up a stand with anti-gay propaganda. They were handing out this hate material and asking Walmart customers to sign a petition to get an anti-gay measure on the ballot.

We were completely offended! As we walked into the store, we read a notice posted on the door that clearly says “No Soliciting.” We raised our objections to the store manager, who said the group was approved to hand out its hate literature and met all the conditions.

We immediately left Walmart and drove back home to South Whidbey. We logged onto the Internet and the Walmart Web page. On the Walmart Web page, it clearly states: “Dedication to Diversity and Inclusion touches every part of our business.

“Diversity and Inclusion are enduring values embedded into our culture. From our board of directors to our associates and customers, these values are fundamental to both our business and mission of saving people money so they can live better.”

My family and I could not believe that the statement about diversity on the Walmart Web page could be the same company that allowed the anti-gay hate group to hand out hate propaganda in front of the store.

Shame on the Oak Harbor Walmart. We will never shop there again.
