Letter: WICA lesbian event raised $1,000 for history project

Editor,

Thanks to the South Whidbey Record and reporter Patricia Guthrie for the great article about the Old Lesbians Oral History Project, or OLOHP, presentation at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts. I’m sure your article helped WICA be as full as I’ve ever seen it, with patrons thrilled to see our history of resilience lifted up.

Puget Sound Advocates for Retiree Action, or PSARA, the lead organizers for the event, just informed our local committee that, in addition to the joy the show brought to our community, we raised nearly $1,100 to fund the work of the OLOHP.

PSARA is co-sponsoring another event 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Langley United Methodist Church. It will feature the founder of Alternative Radio, David Barsamian.

Directly after that event, there will be a potluck and discussion at a nearby home to discuss the creation of a Whidbey Island PSARA Committee.

PSARA advocates for issues related to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, senior bankruptcies, housing affordability, race and gender equity.

We need you. Please come!
