To the editor:

What a pleasant surprise to open the mail and find an approved grant request from Langley’s Tourism Committee to begin the necessary planning and permitting process for an RV park in the fairgrounds’ funky campground!

Our ambitious plan, spearheaded in large part by then-Mayor Larry Kwarsick, calls for us to level the ground, upgrade the electrical capacity and replace the creosoted wood posts, outlets and faucets with industry-standard utility pedestals capable of handling the 50-amp rigs on the road today. We have been limping along for years with 15- and 30-amp connections.

Since the Fair Association has paid lodging tax from campground-derived income for years, we are so very pleased the committee deemed this project worthy of a partnership. The campground attracts visitors from off-island throughout the year, and every positive experience our campers have on the grounds and in the city itself promotes a potential return and referrals.

Thank you so much, Tourism Committee members, for your support.
