To the editor:
The people in California found out that their politicians had been inflating their salaries to the detriment of the taxpayers.
It looks like that the taxpayers of Langley are experiencing the same thing.
When the economy of the city is going under, our mayor got a raise.
The mayor also got paid vacations.
The mayor also got a retirement package that the city will have to pay for until he dies.
To pay for all this largesse, several of the needed city services have been cut.
Is this what we want?
I do not have the expertise to mount an impeachment recall, but if anyone out in the city does, please step forward.
We need to impeach this mayor who is taking all our hard-earned money to do a job we elected him to do at the salary that was in effect at the time we elected him, NOT the inflated salary he is now taking from us. We need to impeach the city council members who were so naive as to think he deserves this inflated salary for doing his job.
We need to do this now, before any more foolishness occurs.
I beseech the people of Langley to do the right thing and get rid of this mayor who thinks he can’t do the job of being mayor unless he, and only he, gets a raise.
And don’t forget the members of the city council who also thought that he couldn’t do the job he was elected for unless he depletes the city coffers.
What were they thinking?
If you or I went to bid for a job, at a salary level that was set, and we got it, we would work that job to our best ability.
Then, if we thought we should get a raise for doing an excellent job, we would ask our boss for a raise.
Who is that boss? Why, it is the members or the city of Langley.
Were we asked to give the mayor a raise? Can we afford to give anyone a raise in this economy?
No!
I think we have been duped by a fast talker.
People of the city of Langley, rise up and get rid of this drain on our wallet. Get back all our money that was paid, over and above the regular pay rate due a mayor.
Get back the extra money that was given to our mayor for his paid vacation.
Stop our mayor from getting any retirement pay.
And get rid of the city council members who went along with spending our tax dollars on such extravagances that we can’t afford in this economy.
