‘No Idle’ signs are a positive step | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

It was with great delight that I recently saw “No Idle” signs at the Mukilteo and Clinton ferry traffic holding areas.

Not having received any further communication since last May about this idea, initiated in August 2009, and having pretty much “moved on” to other concerns, the surprise nearly exceeded the gratification.

This is to acknowledge and thank the following individuals (in no particular order) for their part in bringing this project to fruition, not only at those two locations but, as I am to understand, throughout the WSF system: Steve Rodgers, director of operations, Washington State Ferries; Leonard Smith, project person, WSF; Karen Groth, WSF; Kimberly Colburn, WSDOT communication department ombudsman; Brian Walsh, state traffic design and operations manager; Ted Bailey, illumination and ITS manager; Linda Lacomb, customer service manager, WSF; Susan Harris Huether, information manager; Gina Bull, legislative assistant to Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen; Amy Warren, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency; Mike Rosen, PRR; James Nolan, interim executive director, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency; and myriad other individuals.

These signs are one more step in the right direction of helping our commons, our planet and ourselves in many ways, and serve to send an appropriate and meaningful message.

And every step counts.

Please take stock of your good.
